Counting days correctly
Time zones, inclusive dates, and the arithmetic that decides when a clock expires.
A deadline stated as a date has an implicit time zone, and a deadline quoted in a speech has an implicit time of day. The ledger stores dates rather than moments, and grades at the end of the stated day in the speaker's jurisdiction.
That choice occasionally changes a verdict by a day. Where it does, the verdict note says so, because a rule that is invisible is a rule that cannot be argued with.
The conventionDates are stored as ISO days. A claim due 2027-06-30 is not late until 2027-07-01 in the jurisdiction where it was made.
- Horizons are stored as days, not timestamps.
- Ranges are graded at their far end.
- A revision re-opens a record and is logged separately.
- Nothing is graded twice.
Figures computed from docs/predictions/ledger.json at build time. Every claim quoted on this page carries its own sources in the ledger.
